Nature, sea and history

Skiathos is one of the most famous and most visited islands of the Sporades, where pine trees meet the sea. Beyond the beaches there are Byzantine and medieval museums to explore.

Visit the Bourtzi with the ruins of the Venetian fortress, the house of the great Greek writer Alexandros Papadiamantis (now a museum), the churches and monasteries found all over the island, and the Byzantine castle.

Beaches

More than 60 beaches

Clear blue water, sand and green right down to the shore. The south of the island has the livelier, organised beaches; the north is quieter. Don't miss Lalaria, the sea caves, the pine forest at Koukounaries and Strofylia lake.

Evenings

Food and entertainment

Skiathos is known for its nightlife — many call it the Mykonos of the Sporades. The eastern side is lined with bars for cocktails; towards the port and the old town are the island's best-known clubs; and all over the island there are tavernas serving fresh fish by the sea.

Before you leave, try the local sweets: hamali, amygdaloto and aspro.

Activities
